Participate in the Big London Energy Switch!
Alongside nineteen other councils in London, Lambeth Council has launched a collective energy switching scheme, called the Big London Energy Switch. The aim is to get as many people signed up to the scheme to attract suppliers to offer their cheapest tariffs.
The more people who join the better he deal is likely to be. Similar schemes have achieved savings of £50 up to £200 a year on energy bills per household.
Bu for that to happen, we need as many people to register an interest. Registering an interest does not mean you are making a commitment to anything.
Energy bills are likely to continue to rise significantly over the coming years, putting many more thousands of people across London into fuel poverty.
Lambeth residents are urged to register before the end of March 2013. After this date, in mid April, a ‘reverse-auction’ will be held with energy suppliers, who can bid to provide energy to households who have signed up.
Once you have registered and the auction has been held you will be offered a fixed-rate energy tariff based on your usage of gas and electricity. You can then choose whether or not to sign up to the new energy provider.
Personally, I think this is a great idea. With ever rising energy prices, its important that we all try to get the best deal we can on electricity and gas. In addition to this collective energy switch, you can find out if you’re on the best plan really easily by using energy supplier comparison tools – just do a search on Google for them – there are loads!
