Guy Fawkes Day Fireworks 2012 at Streatham Common
Returning this year to Streatham Common, is the Guy Fawkes Day fireworks on the Friday, 2nd November! Its a little bit early for Guy Fawkes Day fireworks… but we’re not complaining. Friday night is much better than Monday night!
Held simultaneously at Brockwell Park and Streatham Common, it seems like Lambeth Council managed to find some money in the budget this year for this special community event. There’s only very few events that can really bring people across all demographics together in a community, and fireworks and a mini carnival in a park is one of those rare events.
Sally Prentice, cabinet member for culture, leisure and the Olympics, said: “we have decided to hold two firework displays this year because the emergency services have concerns about trying to manage 50 to 60,000 people in the vicinity of Streatham Common, who will all arrive and depart at the same time. As it is Streatham Common’s turn to have the fireworks this year, we thought the best way forward to manage the number of people was to have a second display on Brockwell Park.”
Both Guy Fawkes Day firework displays will have a roaming entertainers, craft stalls, lots of food vans, and a funfair – so something for everyone in the family! The fireworks display itself will be 20 minutes long, accompanied with a synchronized music soundtrack.
It seems though that Lambeth Council’s generosity this year with the Guy Fawkes Day fireworks doesn’t extend to more than two parks – the Clapham Common fireworks display will not be held this year. Those in Clapham will just have to make do with the Battersea Park fireworks.
The fireworks on Streatham Common start promptly at 8pm on Friday, 2nd November. Admission is free.
